Liza Ystaas, FNP-C

Owner, James River Family Medicine

Liza Ystaas, FNP-C, is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and the founder of James River Family Medicine. She is dedicated to providing accessible, relationship-based healthcare to individuals and families throughout rural North Dakota.

Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Liza worked as a Registered Nurse for 15 years, gaining extensive clinical experience and developing a deep appreciation for patient-centered care. She went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of North Dakota and became a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner in 2020.

Born and raised in rural North Dakota, Liza has always felt strongly about improving access to quality healthcare in rural communities. After completing her nurse practitioner training, she practiced in Fort Totten and later with Dakota Regional Medical Center, where she cared for patients of all ages and managed a wide range of medical concerns, from preventive care to chronic disease management.

Her experiences working in rural medicine ultimately led her to establish James River Family Medicine, where her goal is to provide personalized, thoughtful care in a setting that allows patients to feel heard, respected, and involved in their health decisions.

Liza lives in New Rockford with her husband and their three children. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys music, reading, spending time at the lake, and cheering on her kids as they stay busy with sports and activities.
